I regret to say very clearly that I have the monopoly on the word in this debate, by what is called a conference. But the study of his mind to travel along the drivers of the social studies of our journey through Todai? Shame S tomorrow? Fame S. INTRODUCTION The first thing to pay attention to the nature and purpose of social studies and how it serves as a vehicle for addressing the issues of our time. In short, social studies is to learn to live and participate in this world at a time and place where we have the formula: SSEA              =        P PSPT =           People SA =           Company PA =         Instead  =       The conference time is a general discourse on an aspect of my academic experience, and my contribution to social science as a field of knowledge, is governed by the formula as indicated SES and the nature of social studies. Here, then, P means that the Nigerian people, Nigerian society is S, p denotes the geographical entity called Nigeria and t is Nigeria, yesterday, today and tomorrow. At this conference, Nigeria, Nigeria yesterday involves pre-colonial times before the 2nd Republic, while Nigeria is now being extended, the 2nd period of the Republic to date. We recognize that the public is not only an interdisciplinary? Gowna? but also heterogeneous? ????. City will be sought, and then to operate in this defined area. Social Studies is affecting every facet of human existence: the man himself as a product of nature and man as a social product, food, resulting from social, political, economic and physical. Social studies has been identified as a real instrument or can reshapening society. (Lawton and Durfour 1973 Osakwe 1993) The nature, content and scope of social studies, is a manly instrument for the development of a new social order? political order. This speaker professed majorly in the social sciences and has 20 publications on the current discourse. Four of these are listed here: Osakwe, EO (1992) â? Social Sciences and the Nigerian armed forces in politics? African Journal of Social Studies Review, vol. 2, No. 2, pp. 89-91 Osakwe, EO (1993a) Education for Citizenship: the Hub of Social Studies in Nigeria Journal of Social Studies Review. Vol 2, No. 3, pp. 23-38. Osakwe, EO (1994a) Education for citizenship in a multiethnic society: teaching ideas. Studies in Education vol. 2. No. 1. April. Pp 60-64. Osakwe, EO (1994b), strategies for teaching social science: the use of the best examples and non-African Journal of Social Studies, Vol. III, 1 and No. 2 pp. 49-55. In Nigeria, the humanities have found concrete expression in the school system after the 1969 National Conference curricula.  The subject is addressed to individuals and construction and the nation (Osakwe 1993).  The potential of the social sciences are not yet fully exploited in our search for a socio-political and economic convenience. Social studies dealing with human relationships.  The world is constantly undergoing change and social studies remains a veritable tool for examining these changes, whether positive or negative. Social studies revolves around the man (people) and everything that strikes them. Areas of emphasis in the social knowledge of the studies included in social studies is related to important generalizations about human relationships, institutions and issues, with supporting facts to ensure that these generalizations are clearly understood (and Osakwe Itedjere 1993). Study A examines the issues and problems from a holistic perspective? Therefore, to solve a problem or question, social studies examines the historical, cultural, sociological, economic, physical and others. Unlike the vertical merger is seen in most school subjects, social studies adopting a horizontal analysis of the spiral of computer problems. Studio A has a strong affinity with the social sciences, but should not be seen as an amalgam of the social sciences. Social Science Education is a means of giving young people a sense of hope in the future and confidence in their ability to solve social and environmental problems of the individual, community, state or nation. On this occasion, the conference deals with one aspect of my discipline is an academic and public interest? Facing the Nation, with Todai? S Shame on Tomorrow? S Fame: social studies as a pilot. Addressing the problems of yesterday, today and tomorrow automatically provides three segments of the speech: Yesterday Today Tomorrow Nigeria and Nigeria. Nigeria, a? Yesterday, it was simplistic to treat the problems of nation building in Nigeria today, without attention to the cause of our past and the past world because it affected our past and present. Mr. Vice-Chancellor, Mr President, the education system we inherited from our colonial masters, although criticized by away from our culture, a product of disciplined individuals and people see us as the pillars of our democracy and national development. In our system of education in the past was very structured, organized and predictable. A it was a time when education was fully the responsibility of government agencies or missionaries. In education institutions were adequate staff, equipment and supervision has been effective.  The academic calendar has remained stable, with virtually no interruption. A participant in the system was able to predict when he / she will graduate. Graduation is not a candidate at the right time has never been the fault of the school or institution, but the inability of students to work hard enough to graduate as planned by the establishment of "teaching. The reporting period was characterized by students in primary and secondary schools to put on uniforms that were uniform in force.  There was no provision for students to their seats and offices or residents, by providing their beds. The laboratories of secondary schools and tertiary were comparable to what obtained in other parts of the world. A good moral education was an integral part of education in the pre-1970 to late 80s in Nigeria. The relationships between students and teachers, students and teachers and students and teachers different levels of education was in a very big business. Incidents of examination malpractice were very rare, and anyone who has been compromising the integrity of the review was promptly treated. Incidents of negotiating skills of students with their teachers and teachers asking? Incentivesâ? were almost nonexistent. In the period under review, the academic standards nigeriae? S first generation universities was commendable and comparable to those obtained in more advanced countries Europe and America.  The period was characterized by massive exchange of staff in universities abroad. our universities have an international reputation and genuine, with staff and students from around the world. to depart from the international perspective our universities and scholars, academics were highly respected and were in the upper social class. Okech (2008) rightly points out that the words of the title? Professor? has attracted much attention. rector's office has been reverred.  The Vice Chancellor has been respected more than any other appointed by the government. Most Nigerians have gone through higher education have some type of financial support both from the Government. The education is a profitable company has been considered the key that opened the door to success and fame. The laziness, theft, prostitution, ostentatious living, greed, oppression, inequality and social space have been considered very shameful for the past in Nigeria . The one is common practice, for example, for the seller to leave the Daily Portera? S Lodge that students have the confidence to make money and have the papers. Similarly, the product of Rag Day have been used to charity as expected. social services have been frowned upon and there was a greater sense of responsibility among citizens, including the holders of public office. Workers report to their jobs on time and stayed at work until closing . Schools and other institutional barriers were closed at 8 am and stayed until closing. Absenteeism is an aberration and frown serious.  There was no freedom of political association, despite the political division was to Throughout the three main ethnic groups, except the belt that she had her own political identity.  It is possible that the families belonging to different political parties and yet continue to live in harmony. Ikokus  The example can attest to this fact? ? the father and son belonged to two opposing parties. Human beings are political animals in general.  The ability to organize people in groups with a political motive is a basic instinct inherent in humans. to give Nigerians meet very political beings.  It is the practice of traditional EU policy has always been with us. One was a fusion between traditional society and modern political parties. As the culture is not static, traditional practices also is adjusted to adapt to new challenges and developments, including contacts with their cultural consequences thereof. The social life of a people and its political culture, largely affects many other areas of life. Nigeria is a policy amalgam. This is indicative of the cultural plurality of the country.  To a large extent, the North is much more complex and politically sensitive.  This probably explains the practice for our northern brethren continue with your radio and listen to new local and international, are always well informed. A social life and political parties is not a feature of western education. Some southerners despite their level of education, remain politically naive ¯ ve and can not read or understand the horizon political. Nigeriae Â? S economy during this period was very stable and has been articulated in agriculture.  This was the era of the pyramids of groundnuts. Nigeria is the world? S the largest producer of peanuts, rubber, oil palm kernels, soybeans, Benise and also a major cotton producer, 2nd largest producer of cocoa.  It is in this period that Malaysia came to Nigeria for our oil and rubber plants to try to Outa their country.  We know where two countries are today in the production of palm oil and rubber. Solid Minerals such as coal, tin and columbite have been exploited in economic quantities and Nigeria were known as AA major global player in the production of these minerals.  The dynamism of the economy is reinforced by the discovery of black gold (oil) in Nigeria.  Gradually, the focus began to shift from agriculture to oil? |  |  |. the mainstay of the Nigerian economy . The Nigerian currency was strong and highly sought after during this period. Nigeriae exchange between 70 and 80 share              United Kingdom                           American         German N1A                   PD STGA                      USD                  DM 3. 64 A 0 €. 615A                      $ 1. 51 The above figures present a vivid picture of the strength of the naira at this time. Nigeria has been very well served by road, rail, air, sea. In this period, there were more than 95,000 kilometers of paved roads and over 3200 kilometers of railway tracks. In Nigeria came from two international airports in Lagos and Kano.  northern and southern parts of the country has attracted significant investments in the development of infrastructure, especially roads and access roads, and to some extent, social services such as water, electricity, hospitals, schools and universities. A This period was characterized by the staff of the Public Works Department (PWD ) remove the grass on the way to provide long distance and clear vision of drivers and road users. The national roads have been maintained regularly? Even then, the roads were narrow and winding, sometimes, are passable throughout the year. Nigeria Airways was the pride of West Africa.  He was above other airlines in the sub-region. The pilots of Nigeria were known for their courtesy, competence and confidence.  Its takeoff and landing has been remarkable and without shocks and hiccups. One of Nigeria Airways flew constantly to Europe, Asia, America and several African roads without blemish. A DC 10s, Boeing 737, 707 and 747 were constant on international routes, while smaller aircraft the service of internal (local) routes. Closer to home, the waterway Obiaruku Sapele Ethiopia along the river was navigable and building materials were transported through it. The safety of lives and property was largely during the warranty period. One was possible to travel through the night without fear of thieves. A journey of overnight was preferred by a number of Nigerians. Incidents theft was rare and was easy to locate the criminals . It was not cool to engage in crime because there was a general rejection of the company or annoyance to who was known for being a criminal or social deviant. NIGERIA TODAY Today, Nigeria has changed its dignity of the values of diligence , patriotism, high ethical standards, its abundant natural resources of the old habits of glory colloquially termed? Nigeria ????: factor injustices, hidden values, rampant corruption and mismanagement. Today, Nigeria is mortally wounded in a deliberately self-inflicted. Most of what is happening in Nigeria today is the national shame, our pain and shame. The shame is most evident in our â?? New Politics?? that is marked by violence resulting in loss of lives and property, the massive fraud and murder. Unworthy beneficiaries are quick to make efforts to convince and confuse the masses to support the outcome of their political prowess. Almost immediately, the approval is precipitated across the country, especially in some Christian and Islamic religious and other self-seeking leaders to pontificate on the fallacious notion that governments and leadership are selected and ordained by God and that we must accept things as are to save our nascent democracy. But peace without justice can not stand the test of time and is an invitation to anarchy. Contrary to what occurs in Western democracies and political stability in others, where election results are reported in 24 hours of closing the polls in Nigeria, which could take three days.  In some cases ridiculous geographical entities such as local elections are even smaller after day, it's still nice that the results are officially released.  This barrier normally allows room for manipulation and the number of strokes of the panel.  Despite all these figures are released as a result ridiculous. A In some cases, more votes than the number of registered voters. multiple voting is not uncommon.  The trial court in Edo State revealed that the voters fictitious and others have voted several times as voters expected across the Atlantic. The foundation of all democratic, stable and functional electoral process. To this must be seen as a key issue in a country like ours.  The electoral process is a political choice by the people. Beside the market gossips and hallway discussions, voting is the only activity which demonstrates the extent of popular audiences? • Your participation in politics. When voting in a free and secret ballot is carried out, the direction and amount of individual?? Participation emerge decisively in its true form. In a survey conducted in 1998 by Professor The degree of apathy expressed by young people was amazing. Percentage of possible participation in the national elections of S / NO any category of students respond to each category of TOTAL NO OF STUDENTS IN PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL 1. indifferent or undecided 162 250 65% 2. Yes or interested 63 250 25% 3. No no interest 25 250 10% This has been almost a decade before the monumental electoral fraud of 2007, but the figure shows the high levels of alienation and disenchantment of political and electoral process among youth. A in most cases, this alienation or apathy leads to lack of high-level political interest. The effective participation of citizens based on knowledge of how the system really works. Our citizens have not been systematically exposed to methods of operation of our political system. A: Many of our young people have been wandering aimlessly in the political landscape of Nigeria.  This has led to misinformation or the smothering of the drive youth policy in national affairs. Our electoral process and protest pending the results is unprecedented in the annals of elections anywhere in the world. Many Nigerians now believe that individual?? S vote does not count? the results are predetermined.  This has led to apathy and despair negligence by a significant segment of the electorate (see Osakwe 1998 Ogini 2008). On June 12, 1993 election, claimed to be the case for free has been canceled ignomity to the chagrin of Nigerians. Since then the situation has worsened. It is understandable cynicism that now both the election and the electoral process, many Nigerians. Another concern in this discourse is that politics in Nigeria is no longer considered a service road, but has become a way of addressing the rapid increase of wealth and public recognition.  This has led to the emergence of politics driven at an angle in mind the political perspective of the electorate.  His style life is marked by extravagant living, luxury cars, including armored vehicles, bodyguards and intimidation with the sirens of all suspected opponents and those who refuse to recognize their new found status and wealth that they find difficult to handle . to what we see now is a repetition of the biblical saga Haman Mordecai. Amman, a political newcomer who is paid a large sum of money for the entire Jewish people is destroyed just because the Jew Mordecai would not bow to him. It is a sign of political immaturity of trying to use the political expediency of reckoning.  It is a sign of shame and reflection of the struggle against a complex. The policy should be a very exciting part of our national life, but is now a matter of life or death, sometimes sending chills down the back of the people. Therefore, the organization or the holding of elections in Nigeria is war and many lives have gone to elections in Nigeria. The political assassinations between 1999 and 2009, 39 cases of policy? motivated murders were reported in the country. The timing of these murders reveals that it is more prevalent in the years prior to the election campaign and fair elections. For example, there were 17 murder cases between 2002 and 2003, 9 cases were recorded between 2005 and 2007 (another pre-election and election period.) political killings? 1999-2009 (- a graphic representation) in the last elections in Nigeria, firearms were used freely.  The crisis in Jos November / December 2008, more than 500 lives were lost in the chaos that drags this election. A: Many of the victims were hospitalized with gunshot wounds.  How does it compare to what prevails in other parts of the world where respect for the results of the elections and the electoral process is conducted in an orderly manner? A common feature of land policy in Nigeria is the retraining of individuals and families? giving the impression that There are some eternal mandate that individuals and families should always be there.  How can one explain a situation in which some politicians who were contemporaries of the wise by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, standing in the corridors of power.  There people who have remained in the political flirtation during the 29-year military? Rule in the democratic era in Nigeria. What a pity that almost two years after the 2007 general election, there are still many unresolved in court cases. It a fact that since the disputed elections, Nigerians several attempts have joined in the search for a reform process that the tree of water in a transparent, free and fair elections to eliminate the resentments that greeted the survey results April 2007, and literally created the hatred and anarchy. How long will Nigerians living with this level of rancor and uncertainty? When the elections are transparent, so that ultimately the loser is even faster to admit defeat and congratulate the winner?  In the U.S. elections on 4 November 2008, Republican candidate John McCain has graciously conceded victory to Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama, at least 24 hours after the election.  The winner and the loser of the American elections do not have to wait for the boss to announce the election results election results more famous in the world. To be based on the results announced live by Cable News Network (CNN). It is instructive to note here that nigeriae? S national television, the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) had a live coverage of the U.S. election. Why Failed to meet our national direct elections.
